The dry season from November to April is generally a popular time for a Mekong cruise, with less rainfall and comfortable conditions for sightseeing. The river landscape changes throughout the year, however, and some cruises operate outside this period. If you are planning to travel to Siem Reap by river, check the specific cruise dates and route, as water levels can affect navigation to Siem Reap via Tonle Sap Lake.
An upstream cruise generally travels from Ho Chi Minh City towards Cambodia, while a downstream cruise follows the river in the opposite direction. Both can include cultural visits and excursions along the Mekong, but the experience may be different by itinerary. Your choice can also depend on your international flights, overall travel plans, and where you would like to start or finish your journey.
