Muong Hoa Valley in Sapa

Muong Hoa valley is one of the most beautiful places in Sapa, It's about 4 kms from Sapa Center and stretching about 15 kms to Ban Ho Village, There are five main villages on this Valley : Y Ninh Ho Village, Lao Chai Village, Ta Van Village, Giang Ta Chai Village and Ban Ho Village in the end of the Valley. Four Hilltribes : Black HMong Tribe, Day Tribe, Red Dao Tribe and Tay Tribe living in these villages on the 2 banks of Hoa Stream ( or Suoi Hoa in Vietnamese) running along the Valley

Muong Hoa valley is famous for its yellow terraced fields, which have been recognized as Vietnam’s largest terraced fields by the Vietnam Guinness Book. The best time to visit this place is the end of September, All the terraces are covered by yellow rice fields
Muong Hoa Valley is also famous for trekking tours on the footpaths through paddy fields and villages, homestay tours to local villages, staying in Local houses of the hill tribes, discover the culture and the custom of the hill tribes.

From Sapa you can start the trekking trip down to Y Linh Ho Village of the Black HMong minority then trekking along the Valley to Lao Chai Village of the Black HMong minoriy, continue to Ta Van Village of the Day Minoriy, for 2 day or 3 day Sapa trekking tours, You can continue trekking to Giang Ta Chai Village of the Red Dao minoriy and Ban Ho Village of the Tay minority.

- Y Linh Ho Village
Y Linh Ho Village is located about 4 km to the south west of Sapa Town. It's alongside of Muong Hoa valley. Y Linh Ho is a little commune composed by a dozen of little hamlets scattering on the severe mountain terrain with high and steep hills.
This village is home to the Black H'Mong who wears very dark clothes in black and navy dyed with indigo. Here you may enjoy the beautiful and intriguing scenery of those villages. This is your opportunity to visit the H'mong people dwelling in their wooden and bamboo houses.

- Lao Chai Village

Lao Chai village is about 6 km far from the Sapa Center, You can reach here by the main road of trekking from Y Linh Ho Village , great view of the whole village opens wide to offer the marvelous panorama of the village, backed by Hoang Lien mountains and facing the river. Here you will enjoy the fresh air, see terrace fields, stream, visit and discover some of the Black H’mong’s families, three large villages with over 100 families of the Black H’mong ethnic. The Black H’mong immigrated from China approximately 300 years ago, These people wearing the black clothes that are made from hemp and dying it a deep indigo blue, and people here are quite hospitable. most of the Black Hmong people here follow Cathelic

- Ta Van Village
Ta Van Village is about 9 kms from Sapa Center, This is the most beautiful village in Muong Hoa Valley . Along two sides has a fertile terraced field which adorns by the green of corn and rice. When visitors come to Ta Van village, they will be amazed at the simple beauty of the houses in the village. Previously, Ta Van based on the customs and characteristic of the Giay in Lao Cai. They live together at the bottom, mountains, the valleys, along streams. The Day was immigrated from China 200 years ago. They are strongly influenced by Chinese culture.
 Growing rice is the major profession of the Day. Besides, they also produce instruments and engraved silver. They live in both stilted houses and common houses with a solemn central part which is served as a place for ancestor altar and guest reception. The Giay have quite various cultures with fairy-tale, poetry, proverbs and riddles. Costumes of the Giay are simple: women with short eczema, wearing cloth bag with embroidered flowers; man also wears pants and shirt.

- Giang Ta Chai Village
Giang Ta Chai Village is about 15 kms from Sapa Center . Located at the right side of Muong Hoa Valley, Giang Ta Chai is the village of Red Dao Ethnic and has become of the attractive places to visitors who want to experience the colorful traditional customs. Giang Ta Chai lies silently by a majestic waterfall and was hidden by old trees and bamboo groves. On the narrow path to Giang Ta Chai, visitors have to pass through Muong Hoa stream which flows slowly year by year in Hoang Lien Bamboo forest. Like other beauty spots in Sapa, here visitors will admire the gorgeous picture of mountains and rice terraced fields.

                                         The Red Dao Lady
Red Dao ( The minority with the Red Cap Women) is the second biggest group of minority people in Sapa in Vietnam. Coming to the village, tourists will be charmed immediately with the out-standing traditional costumes of the local people; and most of those clothes are made from natural materials. Have an overnight at home stay of local people, you will have chance to experience the life style of Red Dao through their folk songs, traditional dances or their handicrafts.
One of the special occasions of the villgers is Cap Sac and they consider that it is the vital rite to the life of Red Dao men. A Red Dao man is only considered a mutual man until he completed the rites in Cap Sac.

- Ban Ho Village
Ban Ho Village is about 25 kms from Sapa Center, this is the home of Tay hill tribe. Ban Ho village is the center of Ban Den village, where the two streams meet Muong Hoa and La Vie. In recent years, Ban Ho has attracted thousands of visitors every year and has become one of the key tourist areas of Sa Pa . Visitors are not only surprised by the terraced fields, but mixed with the houses of local people along the two streams. Ban Dan village is also the meeting place of two streams Muong Hoa and La Vie. Muong Hoa stream is scenic with a beautiful terrain, temperate climate and traditional Tay villages have created paintings of water charming, passionate people. The stream is too familiar in the daily life of Tay people here. The Tay are the earliest known minority in Vietnam, who are thought to have arrived from inland South East Asia about 500 BC. They settled in valleys.The Tay worship ancestors, the house spirit, kitchen spirit and the midwife.
